The full haul. Tom Lehrer, signed Hitchhiker’s Guide, double album of Woody Allen’s standup, Report on Britain starring David Frost and John Cleese (written by Cleese as well as Graham Chapman, Terry Jones, Tony Hendra and others) and a tweedy green jacket.

Very nearly didn’t buy this 1979 double album of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy because some idiot with a ballpoint pen scribbled on it. Then I realized that idiot was, in fact, Douglas Adams.

Today’s sunny and sweaty thrift store trek netted me the following:

  • a framed Lincoln portrait
  • a brand new wallet
  • a necktie
  • a foot massager
  • a stack of books which includes Harold Bloom’s Shakespeare, a book on hotels in the Old West, a gigantic WWII-era atlas chockful of great illustrations and handsome maps, and — my favorite — a finely-illustrated Captain James Cook in the Pacific
  • a comfy herringbone jacket (not pictured)
  • a huge box full of nice wooden hangers for four dollars. Four dollars! A steal!

Best thrift store book haul ever. Salvation Army had an All-You-Could-Carry special for $20. Everything but the annotated double-volume Sherlock Holmes cost me 32 cents a book. (These are all now stacked next to my toilet. No, not really.)
