Very nearly didn’t buy this 1979 double album of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy because some idiot with a ballpoint pen scribbled on it. Then I realized that idiot was, in fact, Douglas Adams.

Today’s sunny and sweaty thrift store trek netted me the following: a framed Lincoln portrait a brand new wallet a necktie a foot massager a stack of books which includes Harold Bloom’s Shakespeare, a book on hotels in the Old West, a gigantic WWII-era atlas chockful of great illustrations and handsome maps, and — my favorite — a finely-illustrated Captain James Cook in the Pacific a comfy herringbone jacket (not pictured) a huge box full of nice wooden hangers for four dollars. Four dollars! A steal! Zoom

Best thrift store book haul ever. Salvation Army had an All-You-Could-Carry special for $20. Everything but the annotated double-volume Sherlock Holmes cost me 32 cents a book. (These are all now stacked next to my toilet. No, not really.)
